Drawing is always already a double

Over the span of four weeks marked by eight recorded online calls, twelve hours of continuous debates, numerous photographs, progress line and collage drawings, and a single precedent, The Core Group, in collaboration with six students from the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning in Cluj-Napoca, assembled a set of five digital black line drawings, four physical models and one computer rendering. One might call this body of work a subject of a workshop, but we believe that it stands as an extended transcription of the present call for papers, The Double. Moreover, we like to think that this work is a capsule that exists in a separate realm, floating around together with other graphical entities and quietly waiting for the moment when someone else will double them in turn.

The students were immersed in Daniel Tudor Munteanu’s Call For Papers, a text that presented itself as highly graphically descriptive, while being composed entirely of words. We felt the need, therefore, to transform and preserve this treasury of doubles into a language of black hatches and lines that emerge from a set of white foam and paper models.
